The fishing industry is strong at Bømlo. 28% of Norway’s pelagic trawler quotas is here, and by 2015 the industry is trading for MNOK 400. The industry employ 190 persons, of which 150 on board a total of 125 registered fishing vessels, and 9 seagoing vessels. The boats generate value for surrounding industry for 100 MNOK per year.
Local fisheries companies at Langevåg have established a partnership through Bømlo Fiskerihavn AS to work together for a competitive and sustainable industry in the future. Bømlo Fiskerihavn AS will advance the work on the fishing port at Langevåg, until financing is completed in the National Transport Plan. Together, one sees the opportunity for further growth through interesting and future-oriented workplaces, apprenticeships and practice venues in the area around. Among other things, Bømlo Fiskerihavn is occupied by facilitating more nutrient areas at sea and carrying out more work closely with the fishing industry. LOS Marine is a ship-servicing company with around 48 highly-qualified staff in all areas, good deep-water quays, floating dock, slipway, and a total of 3,000 m2 of workshops
LOS Marine’s business began with the takeover of Wärtsilä’s ship-servicing department at Rubbestadneset in the summer of 2014. The company has maintained good cooperation with Wärtsilä and the other skilled players at Rubbestadneset, so that LOS Marine can provide customers with the best possible overall service for their vessels.
LOS Marine can perform all types of servicing work in parallel on vessels within most categories. The company offers a wide range of services such as upgrading and maintenance of all types of ships’ engines, electrical and automation systems, propulsion systems, propellers and gear components. LOS Marine machines on board, or in its own machinery centre, carries out pipe and steel repairs, also rebuilds, and assembles equipment. The company also offers services such as bottom treatment, sandblasting of tanks, high-pressure flushing, repairs and painting hulls, etc.

Olvondo Technology was established in 2016 as the two main owners, Olvondo Industries and LOS Gruppen acquired the assets and operation from former Single-Phase Power.
The company Single-Phase Power had over a period of ten years developed the Stirling based renewable energy technology known as SPP HighLift heatpump and SPP HeatPower engine. At the takeover the SPP technology was mature with more than 30.000 operational hours from commercial services.
The SPP technology are unique in its ability to provide high temperature lifts i.e., above 100oC, meaning it can recycle low temperature energy sources to high value process heat. Likewise the SPP technology may deliver steam up at temperatures up to 200oC. To our knowledge there are no other commercial available technologies that can provide similar uniqueness.

UNITECH Energy Group consists of several companies. UNITECH Offshore deliver subsea cables and connectors for O&G, and cables for floating offshore wind. i4FACTORY is a technology company, that together with the industry, has developed an autonomous CNC factory. The first factory is established at Rubbestadneset, Bømlo. The goal is to produce parts geographically close to where the parts are needed. A 3D printing factory are under planning as well.

Rubbestadnes vidaregåande skule (RUV) is a vocational school with a long and proud tradition in educating mechanics, electricians, automaticians and sailors. The school, closely knit to the local industry in Rubbestadneset, was established in 1950, and have since been known for educating able men and women to supply local, national and international companies with workforce.
The school has 30 employees, can fascilitate 180 students, and has these educational courses:
Rubbestadnes vidaregåande skule also runs commissioning courses, and does final examination after apprenticeships. To do so, we have certification from Sjøfartsdirektoratet (The Norwegian Maritime Authority), and DNV GL (The Norwegian Veritas). We can also accomodate up to 26 students in our own dormatory.
The school has long and healthy traditions in working very closely with local companies and businesses in Sunnhordland and all along the Norwegian west coast, both on land, and at sea. The school serves as the municipal provider of language training for adults who are granted residence, and thereby have both a right and an obligation to tuition in Norwegian and social studies. The obligation is prescribed in the Introduction Act and the Education Act.
The school’s main assignment is to qualify and facilitate and thereby make participants able to use their skills in all areas of the Norwegian community.
